Turmeric continues to excite my tastebuds and heal my body, especially adding fresh turmeric  to juices and smoothies.  I have not only been using it to season kale chowders and black rice but have also been playing around with adding it to fresh juices and smoothies. I decided to dive into the healing power of turmeric with 3 of my favorite deliciously satisfying, hydrating recipes.

Turmeric is an ancient root native to Indonesia and Southern India.  Curcumin, the active ingredient is turmeric has been known to be antioxidant, antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, anti-carcinogenic and anti-inflammatory, loaded with many nutrients such as niacin, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Vitamin K, sodium, potassium, calcium, copper, iron, magnesium and z, also detoxifies the liver, improves digestion, boosts immunity... only to name a few. Check out the following link for more details about the health benefits of turmeric.

***mix turmeric and honey in a mug until evenly blended to a thick paste.

warm almond mylk on stovetop and pour into mug with paste. mix well.

'sunrise':

*1 large grapefruit                      *2 valencia oranges

*1 blood orange                          *1 small thumb peeled ginger root

*1 small thumb peeled turmeric

*push all ingredients through juicer.  makes approx.  16oz.

enjoy!

***In some cases turmeric can cause an allergic reaction.  I know that my daughter

notices her tongue and mouth tingles after she consumes it.  If you are not

familiar with turmeric please try it in very tiny doses and pay attention to any

    redness, tingling or itching.

***turmeric is rich in yellow color and

can stain anything it comes in contact

with. Be sure to immediately wipe

      counter tops and wash plastic

      containers...using glass or stainless

      steel is best.
