international green smoothie day!

photo-42.JPG

Why a “green” smoothie? I have been making healthy, nourishing fruit smoothies for a long time. I only discovered the power of the green smoothies a few years ago when a friend, Nubia Sutton (author of My Raw Life) introduced me to this amazing option for taking in more green food. Greens are filled with chlorophyll and are extremely alkalizing. They are high in vitamins, minerals, enzymes and fiber, and are excellent for detoxifying and cleansing the body. After the first smoothie I was hooked. My energy level was instantly boosted, my mood was elevated and daily intake of green, chlorophyll rich fiber was double or tripled. Now the green smoothie is part of my daily ritual, sometimes taking the place of a meal or providing a healthy snack option. I even boost my little guys veggie intake with a green smoothie in the morning. This green smoothie movement continues to transform our lives and those around us.

The following 5 recipes make approx. 3-4 16oz jars of smoothie. I will drink this over the course of 2 days or share with my children. Please feel free to use these recipes as a jump-off but do not feel limited by them….get creative and work with what pleases your taste buds.

*for the smoothest green smoothie a high powered blender such as a Vita-mix is recommended but not required. Other benders will do.
